Group Guitar Lessons with Simon Morel

  • The Newsagency 375 Enmore Road Marrickville, NSW Australia (map)

Experienced local guitar teacher Simon Morel and established Marrickville music venue, The Newsagency are partnering up to offer group guitar lessons on Thursday nights at the boutique music venue.

Running over 6 weeks, the course’s aim is to get complete beginners playing guitar as quickly as possible and will take a song-based approach to learning.

With 25 years guitar teaching experience and a live performance resume that takes in cities all over Australia, Japan and many European countries, Simon Morel is looking forward to the classes. “While I have done group  classes in community venues before, holding them at one of the inner west’s most hip music venues is going to be great. We might even put on a gig towards the middle of the year to show off our students’ talents.”

The Newsagency’s manager, Ali Flett, is also looking forward to the venture. “I love how this fits into our whole ethos. We are a DIY venue and we love being part of the local and music community, so offering these  kinds of workshops is a fabulous way for people who love music to learn in a creative space.”

Simon Morel is a Leichhardt-based musician. He has released 2 solo albums. He currently plays guitar in and manages Sydney Soul band, Chich and The Soul Messengers ( and works as a guitar player for inner west chanteuse Amanda Easton ( In addition, he works as a session guitarist, offers private guitar lessons and offers free advice and music industry contacts to music artists via his company The Record Factory.
